Directions:

  1. Find the first person's relationship to the ancestor by looking across the top (unmarked) row of boxes.
  2. Find the second person's relationship to the ancestor by looking down the leftmost (unmarked) column of boxes.
  3. Read down and across until you reach the box where the two intersect. That box will show the relationship.

Example:

  1. Mike is the common ancestor.
  2. Bob is Mike's Great-Great-Great Grandson, so you choose column #5.
  3. Nancy is Mike's Great-Great Granddaughter, so you choose row #4.
  4. Follow down column #5 and across row #4 until they intersect.
  5. They intersect at the box "3rd Cousin 1 Remv.", so Bob and Nancy are Third Cousins Once Removed.
