The family owned thier own farm which burned after the fall harvest in about 1892. He died prior to 1899 and it was said among the family that he wanted to return to Polan and died of a brokenheart.

The name is sometimes misspelled: Janszewski, Janiszewski, Janucxewski. It most likely is dervied from Januszewo or place of Janusz. Janusz is a from of Jan (John). In 1990 there were 3,491 Polish citizens with this surname.
Anton had a farm near Telog southwest of Tuchola. Tuchola was their market town. Byslaw was the town in which thier church was located. According to Wiktorja, Teolog only had 12 homes at the time she lived there.
The area in which they lived became a part of the Kingdom of Prussiz in 1772 with the first partition of Poland. It may have been located in the Prussian Duchy of Posin. In 1871 it became with Prussia a part of the German Empire. Since January 1, 1999 in Kujawy-Pomorze providence Poland. Prior to that in the providence of Bydgoszcz.
Five children from Antoni's first marriage all came to America.
Sometime in the fall, around harvest time, about 1890 a fire destryoed the farm. The children saw it while coming home from school. This fire caused great hardship on the family and was a major reason in their immigrating to America.
The first family member known to immigrate to the United States was Ewa in 1873. Juljianna came in 1878. Lukasz came with Anastazja in 1891. Anton, Joanna, Wiktorja, Joanna (daughter) and Jan came in 1892 or 1893, arriving at Baltimore about May 30.
The 1898 city directory lists Jenny Januszewski widow of Anton living at 32 Cleaver Street (old style numbering system).
Jozef, Anton's older son from the 2nd marriage, remained on the farm.
In 1892 Anton's son Lukasz married Jozefa, the daughter of Michael Rzentowski in St. Stanislaw Kostka. In 1908 Anton's daughter Wiktorja married Boleslaw, the sone of Michael Rzentowski in St. Hedwig. In 1937 Anna, the daughter by adoption of Anton's sone Jan married Romwald (Raymond) the sone of Boleslaw and Wiktorja in St. Tarcissus. Thus these two families have several links.
